This morning seemed to be a comedy of errors, the stuff you often see at the beginning of a movie. I shut the alarm off and got up 20 minutes later than I should have.
We get everyone up and ready to go and Vivian spits up (she hardly ever does this). Her outfit was saved by the bib she's been wearing to catch all the drool she's been producing lately. I get the kids outside only to remember that Jack's car seat is not strapped in. I then proceed to climb over the seats in a skirt and heels to buckle it in. We get to Kellee's house and the sky opens up and surprises us with a torrential downpour. Of course, I did not bring an umbrella. Jack refuses to get out of the car because he doesn't want to get wet. I run as fast as I can with Vivi in her car seat in one hand, her diaper bag on my shoulder and the other hand filled with diapers and wipes. Jack finally runs into the garage, Vivian and I are soaked. I missed the bus near daycare but beat it to the next stop. Now we are stuck in traffic. Oh and those heels I am wearing are the only shoes I could find this morning (after a frantic search) that match each other and my outfit. They are however about two sizes to small. Among other things, my feet have gotten bigger with each pregnancy. It's not even 10am and my feet are killing me.
That rain that poured down on me was a remnant of Hurricane Isaac. Isaac caused his own chaos in my life last week as he visited our friends in Louisiana. At work we prepared our adjusters along the Gulf Coast for his almost certain arrival along a relatively unpredictable path.
Nick went back to school last week, Jack and Vivi returned to Kellee's full time and I am back in the office. We are slowly trying to find our groove and there is some comfort in routine.
I suspended my gym membership while I was on leave, and today I am going back. As hard as I try to work out at home, it just never seems to happen. Lunch time is the only time I seem to be able to exercise on a somewhat consistent basis. I have a fall race I am training for and time is of the essence.
I am sure that this morning was only the beginning of my Monday/Tuesday, but I am determined to have a good day today even if Hurricane Isaac continues to rear his ugly head, and I fully suspect he will - both in the forecast and in my inbox. Regardless of the day's events, I get to go home to Vivian's toothless grin, Jack's bear hugs, and Nick's witty stories about his day; and that makes all the craziness worth it!
Have a good week!
